Paul Gowans

About Me

Paul Gowans is a certified Massage Therapist and Neuromuscular Therapist with a passion for helping individuals alleviate pain and improve their quality of life. He began his massage therapy career in 2015 after completing the core massage therapy program at the National Holistic Institute in San Jose. Early in his career, Paul recognized the need for more specialized knowledge to effectively address common patient complaints, such as frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, and headaches. This realization led him to pursue the Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy program at the National Holistic Institute, which he completed in 2018.

With advanced training in Neuromuscular Therapy, Paul developed a strong foundation in working with individuals suffering from chronic pain and injury. His approach integrates the principles of injury prevention alongside therapeutic treatment, achieving optimal results. By combining neuromuscular therapy with relaxation massage techniques, he is able to provide holistic care that supports both pain relief and long-term recovery.

Paul continues to expand his knowledge and skillset, holding additional certifications in Personal Training, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Cupping Therapy, Kinesiology Taping, Instrument Soft Tissue Mobilization (ISTM), and Z-Health (functional neurology for pain relief and performance enhancement), among others. This ongoing education has further reinforced his focus on injury prevention, pain management, and functional movement.

A cornerstone of Paul’s approach is a comprehensive assessment of each client’s health history, posture, movement, and specific needs. Each treatment plan is customized to address the unique challenges and goals of the individual. Paul employs a variety of therapeutic techniques—including NMT, NKT, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Therapy, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Cupping Therapy, Kinesiology Taping, and Swedish Massage to achieve the best possible results for his clients.

At the conclusion of each session, Paul educates his clients on the treatment process and offers personalized recommendations for maintaining progress between visits. As a Neuromuscular Therapist and Health Educator, Paul emphasizes the importance of daily habits and self-care in achieving lasting, long-term change. He firmly believes that therapeutic massage is a vital component of overall wellness, but should be part of a holistic approach to health that includes ongoing education and lifestyle adjustments.
